Welcome to the River Heads Fishing Club
Founded in 2009 by four local anglers, the River Heads Fishing Club has grown from a small group of fishing mates into a thriving club with more than 120 members. What started as a few locals sharing fishing stories and tips has developed into a vibrant community built around the love of fishing, good company and our local waterways.
Whether you are an experienced angler or just getting started, the club offers something for everyone. From our monthly fish meets and competitions to social events and club activities, there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy fishing and connect with other members of the local fishing community.
The River Heads Fishing Club works closely with the River Heads Progress Association Inc (RHPA), which allows us to utilise the River Heads Community Hall and its facilities for meetings and events.
Our club is also affiliated with QAFCA Inc (Queensland Amateur Fishing Clubs Association Inc), a network representing more than 100 fishing clubs across Queensland. QAFCA brings together a wide range of fishing enthusiasts including competitive anglers, fish stocking groups, fly fishers, kayak anglers and those who simply enjoy fishing as a social pastime.
Our aim is to run a friendly and active fishing club without unnecessary formalities. It is a great opportunity to meet people who share the same interests, learn from each other and enjoy fishing together.
Fishing & Social Activities
River Heads Fishing Club runs monthly Fish Meet competitions that are open to all members who wish to participate. Points are awarded throughout the year, leading to our annual presentation night where the season’s achievements are celebrated.
Fish Meets are held on the first full weekend of each month (Friday to Sunday), excluding January. Members can fish anywhere from Woodgate to Tin Can Bay, including all waters around Fraser Island.
Fishing begins at 5:00am on Friday and concludes at 2:00pm on Sunday. Monthly code words are sent to members via email and the clubs Facebook members chat at 5:00am on Friday.
Weigh-in takes place at 2pm on Sunday at the River Heads Community Hall, with official recording of fish and photographs starting at 3:15pm.
Fish Meets are also a great social opportunity for members and families. The afternoon includes a free sausage sizzle and a nominated activity, such as:
• Knots and rigs
• Cast net demonstrations
• Fishing tactics and tips
Full competition rules are available in a separate document, and any proposed changes are put to members for a vote.
The River Heads Community Hall is licensed, so drinks are available. The venue also includes a pool table, dart board, and big screen TV, and a fenced children’s playground is located next to the hall.

Committee meetings are held at River Heads Community Hall on the Tuesday, two weeks prior to each Fish Meet, beginning at 5:00pm.
